LED Update..Should you consider 4' T8 LED tubes to replace fluorescent T8 tubes?

It's going to be quite awhile for that to make sense for most applications.  As long as your using an efficient T8 or T5 system, LED linear bulbs do not even come close yet. There probably will be a day leading LED companies will have a good replacement for your T8 tubes; however at least not for the foreseeable future. At this time, we have several companies which do make a 4' LED bulb; however they produce less than half the light output of a 4' T8 and they are very expensive in the range of about $75.00.  Also consider the life ratings on T8 lamps are increasing and you can now get Philips T8 lamps which will last 30,000- 48,000 hours with great color rendering and high lumens per watt. There are exceptions where LED tubes may be a good solution such as maybe a wine case where you need minimal heat or a very hard to reach area. However in most applications,  carry on with T8 and T5 lamps with good electronic ballasts for your best bet. We will keep you posted on developments and call on us for assistance to help you select the best light source and fixture.

Rumsey Lighting Systems has many LED bulb types in PAR sizes which are available now and are ideal to replace halogen lamps.  The new Philips Endura line is coming and will be in stock soon. Ask us about them and how they can help you.

Save Energy and Money with Hubbell Motion Sensors

Hubbell WiringHubbell has recently expanded their H-Moss line of occupancy sensors and daylight controls. Important Lighting Legislation Update!!

Important Lighting Legislation Update!!
2009 DOE Rulemaking for Linear Fluorescent & Halogen Par Lamps

Department of Energy
The DOE recently announced new efficiency standards for linear and U-bend fluorescent lamps, and Halogen PAR lamps. The regulations will greatly increase the minimum efficiency levels for 4-foot T12 and T8 lamps; 8-foot T12, T8 Slimline, T12 HO, and T8 HO lamps, as well as U6 and U3 T12 lamps, and U6 and U 1 and 5/8 inch T8 lamps.

The new regulations will also greatly increase efficiency standards for Halogen PAR38, PAR30 and PAR20 lamps. The new standards will be effective in the summer of 2012 and will eliminate nearly all 4-foot T12 lamps, some 4-foot T8 lamps, most 8-foot T12 lamps, and nearly all standard Halogen PAR38, PAR30 and PAR20 lamps from the market. For information and specific details contact us at Rumsey Lighting Systems to arrange a meeting to review your best options. We have a complete package of sensible and affordable replacements. Simply call your Account Manager for help.

RoHS Defined

What does RoHS compliance mean?

RoHS is the acronym for Restriction of Hazardous Substances. RoHS started in the European Union (EU) and restricts use of specific hazardous materials found in electrical products. The legislation has been adopted by California effective on January 1, 2010. Both Washington, Hawaii and other states are expected to follow. The banned substances under RoHS include Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, and a few more lesser known contaminants. Rumsey Lighting Systems offers both Universal Lighting Technologies (ULT) and Philips Advance ballasts which both feature RoHS fully complaint igniters and starters used in their magnetic and HID ballasts. Call us if you ever have a code or compliance issues and we can help ensure you meet them.

Edison's revenge as Germans rush to buy up last light bulbs

With the regular incandescent bulbs just phased out on September 1st, anxious German customers are stocking on traditional lamps. Hardware and other sellers report record sales as with instances of "hoarding" or what the Germans cal "hamster buying" by worried consumers as retailers gear up to stop selling the traditional lamps in favor of the greener, energy saving CFL (compact fluorescent lamps). Sales in Hamburg of ordinary lamps are up 337%.

The phasing out of traditional bulbs is happening in stages. First to go now are the 100 watt bulbs, followed by high powered halogen lamps. By the end of 2012, 75 watt and 60 watt lamps will vanish as per guidelines of the European Union (EU) with a ban on energy wasting incandescent bulbs.

The EU says the new energy saving lamps will cut emissions in Europe by 15 million tons and all experts agree that consumers who switch to the energy saving lamps stand to save hundreds of Euros (dollars) in electricity costs. The current rush to buy the traditional is emotional and a reaction to change. Total European consumer sales statistics indicate the enthusiasm for the old fashioned bulbs may be purely a German phenomenon as this has not happened in other areas. While at first there may be mixed feelings, all agree the ban is better for the European Union.
