The new PlantPAx System 5.0 from Rockwell was announced at the Process Solutions User Group in Chicago last November and is scheduled for release this July 2020. Some of the highlights of the PlantPAx 5.0 release are:
The new system will reduce architecture requirements from improvements in the controller performance in the 5580 and 5380 controllers, making it much easier to migrate to newer versions when available. It will be a matter of flashing the controller firmware to newer versions. Also, the PlantPAx 5.0 will work together with existing versions of the PlantPAx system.
New tools will be coming as well to make it easier to migrate and support modernization of the Process Library. The tool will map previous versions of the library to the embedded objects in the Logix Process controllers. The Process Sizing tool in the Integrated Architecture Builder will also be updated for the new controllers.
The 5780 and 5380 controllers will be able to run in parallel with the new controllers and will be supported into the future along with the new controllers.
