Are you selecting the right products?
Fires and explosions are a major safety concern in industrial plants. No other aspect of industrial safety receives more attention in the form of codes, standards, technical papers and engineering design than hazardous locations. Hazardous locations are areas where flammable liquids, gases, vapors or combustible dusts exists in sufficient quantities to produce an explosion or fire.
Area classifications provide a concise description of the hazardous material that may be present, so the appropriate equipment may be selected and safe installation practices may be followed. Determining the classification of a specific location requires a thorough understanding of the particular site and an exhaustive study of the site must be undertaken before a decision can be made as the what Class, Zone or Division and Group is to be assigned.
If you have that already, there are a lot of great references to help you select appropriate products for installation in that area. For example, the chart below shows the ratings and certifications for Rockwell Automation’s Industrial Control Products. As you can see (click for image the .pdf file), the 800G, 800H and 800R push button families offer hazardous location solutions for Class/Division areas and for Zone 1 areas.
In addition to this chart, Rockwell Automation has several technical commercial tools available to assist in the proper selection of push button components for a hazardous area:
We hope that helps you ensure the safety and selection for your application!
