We have an opening for a Relay Engineer reporting to the Vice President and General Manager of RPS based out of our Conshohocken location. This individual will be responsible for designing electrical protective relay schemes and relay/control panels for various utility and industrial applications. This position will offer developmental opportunities; individual is required to attend, participate and report on all formal and informal training assignments. Individual will work under the general supervision of a senior Relay Engineer or Group Leader or manager; however, this position will generally require the individual to work independently with minimal supervision. As well, they may be required to provide technical guidance/oversight/supervision to associate level employees.
The essential functions are the tasks, duties and responsibilities that are critical to the job; the employee must be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
·Create design-basis drawings (relay single lines, schematics, logic diagrams, physical layouts, etc.) from customer specifications with general supervision and oversight from senior personnel.
·Develop the Bill of Material for projects.
·Estimate and bid projects. This would also include site walk downs and visits to customer’s locations.
·Participate on project teams as a support Engineer.
·Be familiar with the standard concepts practices and procedures of a Relay Engineer.
·Lead a project team as the Lead Responsible Engineer, or Project Manager for a small project.
·Lead or support the design, settings and functionality development of protective relays and relay/control panels.
·Lead or support testing all aspects of protective relay and control schemes/panels in the production facility, including the operation and manipulation of test equipment, and, if required, at the customer site.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
·Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering (preferably in Power or Protection/Controls).
·3 years of Relay application and engineering experience.
·Familiarity with microprocessor relays, devices and controllers, including their programming, testing, and interfacing with other protection and control equipment.
·Familiarity with coordination and fault study tools, software and methodology.
·Familiarity with standard high voltage substation equipment and low voltage auxiliary equipment.
·Proficient with the content of all standard substation electrical protection and control drawings and configuration documents.
·Strong oral and written communication skills.
·Strong presentation skills.
·Proficient with Microsoft Office products (e.g. Word, Excel, etc.).
·Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
·Valid driver’s license.
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
· Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
· AutoCAD and/or Micro-Station CAD experience.
· Electrical Field engineering experience in an industrial or utility environment.
· Completed 3 CEU’s of formal Protective Relay application course work.
· Professional Engineering License or EIT.
