Has your company already invested in, or are you thinking about investing in smart MCC technology for controlling your motors? Rockwell Automation is one of the industry leaders in bringing Intelligent Motor Control to the plant floor via Ethernet. Their smart MCC, the Intellicenter, features networked devices and Premier Integration with Studio 5000 software to get your factory up and running much easier. Although the IntelliCenter software makes integrating the new motors into a Studio 5000 project simpler via a multitude of tags, a lot of times the contractor, system integrator, or machine builder responsible only does the basic amount needed to get the motor up and running and leaves it at that.
Have you gone through and done this?
It is valuable information, so if not, why not? In a large system we’d bet you probably haven’t because this can consume a considerable amount of man hours.
What if there was a solution to monitor and log all that additional information and make it readily available to plant personal?
There is and it’s called FactoryTalk® Analytics for Devices and it is available now.
FactoryTalk® Analytics for Devices is an analytical appliance that polls your network to identify and monitor the status of control devices on an Ethernet/IP network. The appliance:
There is virtually nothing to do other than give the Device a name, date and time, an IP address, and tell it whether it will be connected to the RA cloud for storage. At that point it will scan the network to find Rockwell devices and start loading. You can modify the list of what you want it to monitor and each appliance can monitor up to 100 devices. It will then automatically set up dashboards for each device – zero development required!
As soon as the appliance finishes scanning the network it will start collecting status and diagnostic data from the connected devices. All you need is a web browser to access the appliance dashboard. It uses FactoryTalk® Security if desired to allow or dis-allow access to specific users.
Control systems and devices are inherently data-heavy, but that data provides no value unless it’s transformed into actionable information. In order to make sure the right information is delivered, Rockwell created easy to use action cards that show you exactly what needs action taken on it. These are viewed on either the TeamONE app on your mobile device or your web browser. Items that require your attention, based on the data collected, are listed right in front of you.
Additionally, you can further check on the status of each device and drill in to find specific fault codes. It will learn your actions and build a list of devices that each person using the system has an interest in. FactoryTalk® Analytics for Devices gets smarter with more runtime as it gathers data on what’s important to you, and how devices in your control system are configured.
The device itself is under $2,500 and then the subscription for it which provides ongoing new device profiles and system analytics is about $2,200/year. For less than $5,000 you could essentially have an extra engineer on staff – or at least enable your VFDs and Smart Overload Relays to TELL YOU when there is a problem via instant analytics and action cards. A Smart MCC made Smarter in just 10 minutes. By the way, if you don’t have 100 VFDs or Smart Relays in your MCC, this could extend to PLC processors, switches, and more if you wanted.
To find out more about how FactoryTalk® Analytics for Devices can make your smart MCC even smarter just contact your Rumsey representative or a member of the Rumsey automation team. We will be happy to provide you with further information or a quote. To give you a good idea of how easy it is to set up we can arrange a demonstration at your facility or ours. If you’ve already done some research and are ready to buy one in can be ordered online from the Rockwell Automation Software Portal.
